Cathedrial Stained Glass Window

For my card today, I started by embossing some white cardstock with the Bricks and Bark embossing folder. Next, I cut out the Grand Gothic Window as well as the Grand Gothic Stained Glass Window from white cardstock. I glued the Stained Glass Window die cut to the inside of the Grand Gothic Window. Then I took the inside piece that was cut out from the Grand Gothic Window - the piece you would probably throw away - and I glued that to the back of the entire window. That way you won't see the embossed brickwork through the window when you glue it down on the card.

So I glued my 3-piece window to the brick background and then I worked on the pops of color. I cut out the Small Blooming Poinsettia from red cardstock and then I cut it out again from olive cardstock so I could have some green leaves in the very back of the poinsettia. First, I covered the tiny little stamen piece with some Champagne Stickles and set that aside to dry. Then I glued the layers of the red petals together and then glued those on top of the green petals. Then I set my poinsettia aside to dry completely while I cut out the greenery.

I pulled out the Wreath Strip die (Cheery Lynn Designs) and cut out four of the sprigs from olive cardstock. I glued these down at the bottom of the white window, two on each side. Then I adhered my poinsettia in the center of the foliage. After making sure the Stickles was completely dry, I glued the glittery stamens to the center of the poinsettia. Lastly, I used my fingers to fluff up the poinsettia leaves for that little dimensional pizzazz. :-)

This Small Blooming Poinsettia is the perfect size for projects like this. It works great with all the fantastic window dies in the Classy Cards 'n Such store and it is equally wonderful by itself.  You can save 10% off your orders at Classy Cards 'n Such by using this code, Holly-10, when you check out.  Merry Christmas!!

Curly Snowman

SUOC #86 - Last Minute Cards & Gifts

Curly Snowman

Paper Craft Snowman

I am having so much fun making the Curly Wreaths and then I thought… How about making a "snowman."  The Curly Snowman is the perfect Paper Craft Home Decor piece and a fun gift.  So, I purchased the circular Styrofoam balls in 3 different sizes then I shaved the base and sections that connected each ball together.  To hold it together, I took wooden cooking skewers and stuck 3 of them through the Styrofoam balls to hold them together.  This "little" guy is about 13" to 14" tall.

The Designer Series Paper is the Winter Frost Specialty Designer Series Paper.  The snowman took exactly 1 full pack of the Winter Frost although I did pull 1 extra sheet from a second pack so the snowman head was ALL the same patterns.  As I worked from the head down to the base, I gradually added in darker shades of the Winter Frost Specialty Designer Series Paper.

For the finishing touches, I used the 3/4" Circle Punch to punch out the mouth from Basic Black cardstock.  The eyes are also basic black cardstock circles punched using the 1" Circle Punch then the buttons are created using the 1 1/4" circle punch.  The nose is Pumpkin Pie cardstock which I spiral curled.  All elements were attached using my Hot Glue Gun.

Tulip Birthday Window card

The base card is Island Indigo layered with first Whisper White and then Gingham  Garden  designer paper.

To make the window I measured out the space for it than cut out the rectangle using my cutter.  Since it was difficult to cut through all three layers at the same time, I cut out one layer at a time - using each layer as a template for the next.  I attached the window sheet, which I cut larger than the window it would be covering, between the designer paper and the whisper white layer. To finish the window off, I attached a silver sticker decorative line around the edges.

The tulip was colored using SU markers and an aqua painter.  It was die cut using the Backyard Basics framelits and attached to a piece of Island Indigo card stock and adhered to the inside of the card so it would show through the window.  The same edging was used around the edges of this piece of Island Indigo as I did the window.

The flags were made with hand cut triangles of melon mambo card stock.

Stamps: Backyard Basics, Bring On the Cake

Inks: Black Stazon, Melon Mambo, SU markers (Melon Mambo, Pear Pizzazz)

Papers: Island Indigo, Whisper White, Melon Mambo,  Gingham Garden  Designer Series Paper

Accessories: Window sheet, Backyard Basics framelit, silver decorative line stickers (non SU)

Deco Mesh Christmas Wreath by Patty Bennett

The following was totally copied and pasted from Patty Bennett's blog to here.  Her blog address can be found at the bottom of this post.

I was so excited when I kept seeing these fun Deco Mesh Wreaths on Pinterest.. and I really wanted to make one, but wasn't inspired to do so until I saw my friend Cindee making a wreath... then I knew I had to go buy the supplies and try one for myself!!
So, on Thanksgiving Day, I embarked on my Deco Mesh Wreath Journey.. and voila, WOW are these things faaaaaaaast and easy or what?  Some of you saw my post on Facebook.. thanks for your kind comments! :)
  Deco-mesh-wreath-patty
These are the 2 wreaths I made.. they took about 3-4 hours total.
One is on our door and one is above the fireplace.
These are pretty large.. about 24" in diameter and really fluffy and colorful!
I decided to add my little paper angels from last year to the wreath above the fireplace when I came across them while decorating the tree:

I bought the supplies at a variety of craft and big box stores and even some supplies at the dollar discount stores.. you can find all sorts of GREAT bargains for Christmas decor items right now!
Deco-mesh-wreath-supplies
I used 1 roll of 21" wide mesh per wreath plus about a 1/2 roll of the 6" wide mesh.
Hobby Lobby had the 16" wreath bases with the pipe cleaners already on them.. SO convenient!

Here is the 411 - the How To - on the Deco Mesh Wreaths!

To embellish, try adding strings of holiday ornaments or other garland

Add a 2nd layer of mesh all the way around for added fullness:

For added color contrast, use a small roll of another color:

I found these cute glitter bulbs at the craft store and strung 3 together on a pipe cleaner and added those to one of the wreaths

What do you think... it's so fun.. a great Christmas Craft for this season!

Quick Christmas Cards

CAS Warmth & Wonder

I had quite a productive day in my card room yesterday.  I was able to get ALL my Christmas cards made in one afternoon!  I love to sit down and make detailed Seasonal cards but the fact of the matter is when it comes to making a stack of cards I just want to get them done and in the mail!  For this reason I turned to a CAS (clean and simple) design this year.  I'm happy with the way they turned out - proof that sometimes simpler is better.

Supplies:

Stamp sets: Warmth & Wonder, Endless Wishes Photopolymer (SOLD OUT)
Cardstock: Whisper White
Ink: Midnight Muse, Pink Pirouette, Smoky Slate, Chocolate Chip
Accessories: Apothecary Accents Framelits, Silver Ribbon, Sponge Daubers, White Gel Pen, Simply Scored, Stylus Tool, Crop-a-dile, Post it note

Begin by cutting the small frame found in the Apothecary Accents framelits onto a post it note.  Place the post it onto the Whisper White card base, centering it.  Sponge Midnight Muse along the edges, leaving a small amount of white space in the center and along the top of the frame.  Sponge Pink Pirouette into the white space.  Stamp either the tree or deer image from the Warmth & Wonder set into the center of the frame.  Remove the mask and add snow to the image with a white gel pen.  Stamp the greeting below the image then add an embossed border with a stylus tool and the Simply Scored board.   As a finishing touch punch two small holes below the border and tie a small piece of Silver ribbon into a knot.  That's it!  Once I got into a system a card would take roughly 5 minutes to make start to finish!  I LOVE THAT!

3X3 Treat Holder and Card

Need a quick and easy treat holder and card?
If you don’t know by now; I love things that are quick and easy to put together.
This is a treat holder made from our 3 x 3 envelopes and a coordinating 3 x 3 card.

Check this out:

Inside the envelope I have a Ghirardelli Chocolate and the coordinating card.

Here is the card:

These go together so quickly:
All you need is the 3 x 3 square envelopes #107309 $7.50; just tuck the flap inside the envelope.

For the little card cut some whisper white card stock 2 3/4″ X 5 1/2″ and fold it in 1/2 to create a 2 3/4″ X 2 3/4″ square card. Attach your card to a piece of coordinating card stock cut 3″ X 3″.

I used the Season of Style Designer Series Paper Stack #132181 $6.95 scraps on the front of the envelope and the card. I then stamped the Festive Flurry snowflakes in Crumb Cake and Cherry Cobbler on Whisper White and cut them out with the Coordinating framelits. Get the Festive Flurry Bundle and save 15% #133284 $54.95 or #133285 $46.95.

These make a super cute little thank you to put in someone’s orders or even leave on their desk at work. Whomever you decide to give these to it’s guaranteed to leave a smile on their face.

Razzleberry Poinsettias by Holly Brown

Razzleberry Poinsettias

Sometimes I like to change things up and do the unexpected. Today I've created a Christmas card, but I've used non-traditional Christmas colors on this card.

Instead of the red and green combo, or a blue and white combo, I've gone way outside the box. I've gone with a purple-ish color called Razzleberry and I paired it with some grays and a pale pink and white. I love how this combo turned out. It's fun to come up with an idea in your head and then have the end result look better than you expected. :-)

I started with a Razzleberry card base and I added a sheet of the embossed gray paper from The Lake House paper pad. I die cut the Tiny Bubbles (Cheery Lynn Designs) from pale pink cardstock and then I backed it with a strip of the Razzleberry cardstock. I glued this down on the left side of my card.

I then stamped the sentiment from Christmas Inner Thoughts (JustRite) on white cardstock, layered that on a dark gray cardstock, and adhered it to the card. I die cut the poinsettias from the Poinsettia Strip (Cheery Lynn Designs) and picked out the ones I wanted to use. I ended up using the smallest flower and the medium flower and I die cut extras so I could layer them.

I wanted a little extra "magic" to go with the sentiment on my card, so I squeezed some Mercury Glass Stickles onto each poinsettia and smeared it around with my finger. I let these dry completely before I glued the layers together. The final touch was to add a Mother of Pearl Rhinestone to each of the poinsettias.

I have to tell you - I am in LOVE with this Mercury Glass Stickles. That shine is just awesome! This can go with any color and it will look fabulous. I love the old-fashioned charm this gives to my non-traditional poinsettias.

Bronze Flourish card by Holly Brown

Bronze Autumn Hi

I bought some of the Echo - Bronze Stardream Metallic paper from Classy Cards 'n Such, and this gorgeous paper is just perfect for fall-inspired cards. I cut a layer of this gorgeous Bronze paper and adhered it to a mustard card base. You can see the shimmer in the first picture, but here is a picture of how it really shimmers and changes when you tilt it back and forth in your hands.

Isn't that awesome? I love this Metallic paper! I kept my card simple by cutting out the rectangles using the dies from the Blueprints 4 set. I cut three mustard cardstock pieces and then three pieces from one of the papers in the Autumn Song 6x6 paper pad. I kept them in the same order so you can see the graduation of colors in the papers.

Before I adhered my rectangles down on my card, I die cut some flourishes from a deep rust colored cardstock. I cut one Mini Fanciful Flourish and one Mini Fanciful Flourish - Reverse (Cheery Lynn Designs), and then I cut the flourishes apart and arranged them behind and around the rectangles. Once everything was arranged, I glued it all down.

I wanted a little sentiment at the bottom, so I die cut the "hi" from the Parker Lower Alphabet and arranged it on the bottom rectangle. It needed a little shimmer to go with the gorgeous Bronze paper, so I covered the "hi" with Champagne Stickles and let it dry. Once it was completely dry, I glued the letters down.

I love how this card turned out. You can see the gorgeous Bronze paper and the flourishes really enhance the swirls you see in the patterned paper. This is going to be a fun card to send to someone just to put a smile on their face. :-)
